Being an open top air fed design, the fire from the reaction zone can climb straight up through imberrt fuel and waste it and it can cause the gasifier to run very hot and inefficent. If the cross-sectional area of the nozzles is too small, there will be an excessive pressure drop in forming the air jets; if the cross-sectional area is too large, the air jets will have too low a velocity and the air will not penetrate the bed.
The Imbert design cannot be scaled-up to larger sizes because the air enters at the sides and is incapable of penetrating a large-diameter fuel bed unless the fuel size is increased proportionally.
This prototype embodies optimized gravity flow principles that follows more elegant thermodynamics than previous approaches, concentrating air, gas and heat flow into the central gasification reaction through an interweaving of concentric shells and spiral ducts, to create a clean gas of significantly higher heat content.
The Imbert gasifier is umbert many ways self-adjusting. The FEMA gasifier was gasiifer meant as a last resort emergency fuel source so it was never intended to be used as a long term fuel source.
