I thoroughly enjoyed reading the insights of those chosen to be interviewed for this book. In Designing Media, design guru Bill Moggridge examines moggidge and conflicts between old and new media, describing how the MSM have changed and how new patterns of media consumption are emerging.
Join overdesigners who stay up-to-date with the Core77 newsletter Cheryl Heller posted a fantastic point of view on the Design Thinking movement. Great collection of point of views and surveys of digital creators and thinkers. That said, we suppose that the pick and choose hypertext way of gathering information from the feed is something Moggridge and most of the interviewees would mecia perfectly appropriate.

When you bounce from an interview with DJ Spooky to Jimmy Wales, a little context is profoundly helpful, and Moggridge provides seamless segues.
But the long-dominant MSM–television, radio, newspapers, magazines, and books–have had to respond to emergent digital dedigning. True to the occasionally awkward mashup that is print media in biol digital age, Moggridge’s book includes an additional DVD of the actual interviews themselves.

We learn about innovations in media that rely on contributions from a crowd or a communityas told by Wikipedia’s Jimmy Wales and Craigslist’s Craig Newmark; how the bull OK Go built a following using YouTube; how real-time connections between dispatchers and couriers inspired Twitter; how a BusinessWeek blog became a quarterly printed supplement to the magazine; and how e-readers have evolved from Dsigning eBook to QUE.
It’s hard to write a book on technology that is still current by the time it is published. Indeed, the interviews are available here.
Our only quibble would be that at the beginning of the book, Moggridge lays out that the blue text represents his voice. Product Tank did just that with “New Rule”, a ruler for the visually impaired.
Bill’s fascination with design, and with what people want from everyday things, provided a broad view of the information revolution.

The questions generally focus on how the interviewees got where mfdia are, where their big ideas came from, their core principles, and how they operate. Not quite as good as Designing Interactions, perhaps because this viewpoint of “media” and new media in particular is more common and much more examined.

Having said that, I think that Designing Media does a good job at still being relevant. Under Moggridge’s watch, “Designing Media” becomes more than a set of interviews.
