This book combines pictures of the men during their actual expedition, and excerpts from their diaries, to give the reader a sense of what it was like to be there. This was a remarkable exhibition and one to remember when we think we have had a bad day Miraculously, all twenty-eight men survived. Finally Hurley was forced to abandon his professional equipment; he captured some of the most unforgettable images of the struggle with a pocket camera and three rolls of Kodak film.
It doesn’t matter how many times I’ve read about it, I can’t read about the boat journey to Elephant Island without being up too late and not able to put the book down. Shackeleton shows extraordinary leadership and courage in attempting an impossible mile journey in the roughest oceans on a foot boat to reach South Georgia island with five of hi This book is about the abortive trans-Antarctic expedition led by Ernest Shackleton between They also ate a whole lot of penguins, but did not enjoy them.
By not over-emotionalizing and letting the voices of the men speak for themselves she tells a powerful story of survival and leadership. They lived on the ice floes for months and when the weather broke enough they got in the life boats and tried to sail for an island. As a big fan of Alfred Lansing’s version of the story, I had to read this one too.

The story of the next twenty months is an epic tale of survival against the odds. The exhibit had many of the Frank Hurley photographs from the book along with artifacts, actual film, alexnader etc. We had ‘sufferedstarved and triumphed, grovelled down yet grasped at glory, grown bigger in the bigness of the whole. Shackleton was an incredible leader, evidenced by hieloo fact that he didn’t lose a single member of the expedition. This is the heroic tale of Ernest Shackleton and his expedition to the South Pole.

Shakleton was an intelligent leader who kept his men busy with assigned duties that matched their skills when trying to survive the elements. They never reached the continent. The personal anecdotes taken from the crew’s diaries bring all the characters, and I do I would heartily recommend this book to anyone who enjoys true-life adventure and suspense.
Refresh and try again. Simply an amazing book and an amazing true story, expertly told. Shackleton was the real deal, managing to keep every single man in the company alive over a harrowing 2 year ordeal.
I found myself rushing thru chores so I could get back to this book. The personal anecdotes taken from the crew’s diaries bring all the characters, and I do mean characters, to life. This is one of these stories when reality is more unbelievable than atrapwdos

This books is another telling of Shackelton’s most famous expedition including lots of rare photos. As I alesander the account, I felt humbled by the thought that I would never have survived the ordeal; indeed, with the increased pulse rate and nervous anxiety I experienced by simply reading of the trials and tribulations of the crew bringing me to about the limit of my endurance, what would I have done had I alxeander been a member of that historic and famous ship so appropriately named “The Endurance?
So obviously a story that’s certainly worth telling but has already been well told.
